Final Class

For our seventh and final class, we finished our paintings and then went to hang our show in the hallway "gallery".  Each student chose at least one painting to hang, before we headed outside for a popsicle party.  Here is our Painting Exhibit:

Classes 4, 5, & 6

We got a lot of work done during weeks 4, 5 & 6! We learned new brush techniques, like how to "erase" acrylic with water, and how to apply paint thickly and very thinly. We looked at the color wheel, and moved onto larger canvases.  Check out some of the student work below!

Classes 2 & 3

The students first finished their fruit studies:

And a new student practiced realism and pointillism with a sunflower.

Time to start sketching!
Most students already had ideas about subject matter, so I had brought in some images and books for them to look at.

Everyone in the class chose a painting style from the styles we had learned about the previous week - pointillism, cubism, impressionism, surrealism, realism, pop art.
After working on and revising their sketches, they received their canvas, and started to paint!
By the end of the third class, a few students were finishing their first piece, while some had moved onto small canvas studies for their second painting.

Take a look:

"Cat" - realism

This reminds me of:
Andy Warhol's cat series

Second Grade Artist:

"Rainbow in Bird Colors, Birds in Rainbow Colors" - surrealism

What inspired her to "switch things around":
"Out of the Blue" by Chamine

First Grade Artist:

This reminds me of:
Henri Rousseau

Kindergarten Artist:

"Banana Dolphin, Apple with Wings, and Baseball with Wings,  in the Sky"
- surrealism
This reminds me of:

Her second painting:

Eric Carle, 'Dream Snow Horse'

Third Grade Artist:

in process, pop art
What inspired her: Comic Thought Bubbles

Sometimes mistakes are exciting! She wanted to start fresh, so painted over her pop art painting, accidentally creating this impressionistic rainy day:
